Angels’ Rest is located in the town of Leyden Massachusetts, which is roughly 9 miles from I-91 in Greenfield and 5 miles from the Vermont border. It is a rural town of 800 people, and the town center consists of a town hall, a church and a small library.
By Bus: Peter Pan Bus Lines goes to Greenfield, Mass. From there you can take an Ace Cab at (413) 773-9063 to Angels’ Rest at 63 North County Road in Leyden, MA or call the retreat center 413 772 0648 to arrange pickup in advance.
By Train: Amtrak goes to Brattleboro, VT, which is 20 minutes from Angels’ Rest. From there you can take Brattleboro Taxi at (802) 254-6446 to Angels’ Rest at 63 North County Road in Leyden, MA or call the retreat center at 413 772 0648 to arrange pickup in advance.
By Airplane: The closest airport is Hartford, Connecticut (Bradley International), which is an hour away. Valley Transporter does airport transfer for @$55 one-way and is available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST at (413) 253-1350 or (800) 872-8752. Have them take you to the Greenfield Inn (in Greenfield, MA). From there you can take an Ace cab (773-9063) directly to Angels’ Rest for @$20 or call the retreat center 413 772 0648 to arrange pickup in advance.
From New York City area and South: Take
95N or 15N (Merrit Parkway) to 91N towards Hartford.
Then follow directions below*.
From Albany and West: Take 90 Mass. Pike
to 91N (exit 4). Then follow directions below*.
FROM 91N - Proceed east to intersection
of 91 and 2W, exit 26 “Greenfield.”
(Massachusetts, not Connecticut). At the rotary,
take Route 2 west (.1 mile) to stoplight. Turn
RIGHT on Colrain Road. Follow Colrain Road until
you pass a convenience store (Harper’s) on
your left. Turn RIGHT on Nashs Mill Road. Nashs
Mill ends on Leyden Road. Turn LEFT and follow
Leyden Road for 8.8 miles. Stay on main road and
do not take any right forks. Towards the end of
this ± 7 miles, you’ll pass a graveyard on
your left and you’ll come to a choice of
straight on Mid County Road or following the road
as it road curves to the right. Proceed STRAIGHT
up the hill on Mid County Road. Follow Mid County
until it ends at a stop sign and the road turns
into West Leyden Road. Follow West Leyden straight
up the hill until you turn RIGHT on North County
Road. Proceed .3 miles until you see the Angels’
Rest sign. Park IN the driveway following the
directions below (EVERYONE * PARKING * EVERYONE!).
FROM 91S: Take Highway 91 to exit 1 –
Brattleboro, VT. Go west/south (right turn) on
5 towards Guilford (1 mile). Turn right just after
the Guilford Country Store at Guilford Center
Road Follow this road 1.7 miles . Turn left onto
Weathershead Hollow Road. Go 7.4 miles. Turn right
on Zimmerman Hill Road. Go up the hill. Turn left
at the T towards the little Leyden triangle (a
few yards only). At the triangle, turn right towards
Colrain and West Leyden Road. Continue 3/4 mile,
following the sharp hairpin turn to the right.
Go up the hill and take your first right onto
North County Road. Go .3 miles to Angels’
Rest sign on right and enter drive, following
parking directions below (EVERYONE * PARKING *
EVERYONE!).
FROM Route 2: Follow route 2 going west
past Turners Falls. Follow signs for 2W. Exit
at “5 and 10 Greenfield” and turn left
off exit. Turn right at first light onto Silver
Street. Go to end and turn right onto Leyden
Rd. (left is Conway St.). Follow Leyden Road. Stay on main road and do not take any
right forks. Towards the end of this ± 7.1 miles,
you’ll pass a graveyard on your left and
you’ll come to a choice of straight on Mid
County Road or following the road as it road curves
to the right. Proceed STRAIGHT up the hill on
Mid County Road. Follow Mid County until it ends
at a stop sign and the road turns into West Leyden
Road. Follow West Leyden straight up the hill
until you turn RIGHT on North County Road. Proceed
.3 miles until you see the Angels’ Rest sign.
Park IN the driveway following the directions
below (EVERYONE * PARKING * EVERYONE!)
SNOW (NO 4WD):
After the graveyard, the road curves to the right.
Don’t go up the hill on Mid County Road.
Bear right on the same road to the very top of
the hill where there’s a little white and
black sign that points towards “West Leyden”
and “Colrain.” Turn LEFT here. After
this turn, you’ll see the Leyden Town Hall
on your left and a white church on your right.
Continue 3/4 mile and turn RIGHT at the hairpin
curve (“W Leyden” sign). Go up the hill
and take you first RIGHT onto North County Road.
Angels’ Rest is .3 miles on the right. Park
IN the driveway following the directions below
(EVERYONE * PARKING * EVERYONE!).

It is best
if the first six cars pull in diagonally facing
the conference center, and the next cars come
in, turn around, and park facing uphill on the
sides of the driveway. Please keep in mind that
there must be room for an emergency vehicle to
access the buildings via the driveway.
